Take a trip by
Bloomington High School and you will see that our Capital
Improvement Program kicked off the new school year in high gear. BHS
is home to the first of several major construction projects that
will start across the district during 2010-11.
The new Bloomington High School Math and Science Building will sit
on the corner of Laurel and Santa Ana and will give the campus new
classrooms, new science labs and a new look when it opens next year.
The Colton High School Math and Science Building will begin its
construction in January 2011, bringing similar improvements to the
corner of Valley and Rancho.

avenida Rancho.

The
Colton Joint Unified School District proudly announces
the release of the first in a new series of Quarterly
Reports to keep the public informed of its progress on
construction projects and its capital improvement
program.
In the nearly ten years since Measure B passed, the
district successfully administered $102 million of
voter-approved Measure B bond funds. In November 2008,
73 percent of voters again showed their support for
school improvements and passed Measure G for $225
million. The first series of Measure G was issued in
December 2009 for $45 million, which will allow CJUSD to
continue to plan, design and construct projects
initiated under Measure B.

GRAND TERRACE HIGH SCHOOL
Construction
Continues as Usual!
“Although boring to some, given the long, arduous journey of
this project the last 10 years, this is exactly where we
want to be,” according to Darryl Taylor, the new Director of
Facilities and Planning at CJUSD. Recently-hired Mr. Taylor
is working closely with the District’s Program Manager,
Seville Construction Services and the project construction
management team, Vanir, to get up to speed on this project,
learning its history. Setbacks as well as triumphs
punctuated site acquisition, funding, and start of
construction activities. However, the positives far outweigh
the challenges as attested by future Grand Terrace high
students who recently elected the Titan for the school
mascot and turquoise and black for its school colors. Grand
Terrace High School, when complete will represent another
triumph for Colton Joint Unified School District.

NEW MIDDLE
SCHOOL #5
Site block wall under construction, school construction
starts Fall 2010!
Construction has started with the building of a concrete
block wall and installation of a perimeter chain link fence
to secure the new 14-acre campus. Actual construction of the
new middle school will begin in late fall of 2010.
Middle School #5 has been designed to house 1,325 students
in grades 7 and 8. The new library media center and the
multi-purpose/PE facility will be located at the front of
the site along Valley Boulevard to provide easy access and
use by the community. The school will have an interior
courtyard that is laid out to promote an atmosphere for
socialization and circulation in an easily supervised
setting. These and other features are the direct result of
numerous meetings with teachers, parents, and community
members, all coming together to develop the most successful
learning experience and community resource possible.
