The
2011-12 school year marks many milestones in our Capital Improvement
Program.
Starting with the Claude “Bud” Johnston Math & Science Building at
Bloomington High School in the fall, and continuing in 2012 with
Grand Terrace High School, Joe Baca Middle School and Colton High
School’s Math & Science Building, we will complete our four largest
projects currently under construction.
These are exciting projects that the community has been looking
forward to for a long time. The progress toward completion continues
thanks to voters’ support of Measures B and G and a lot of hard work
by our facilities team.

The
master plan is the District’s blueprint that allows for
long term planning facilities in relation to its student
housing needs. It outlines the district’s construction
priorities and funding mechanisms to address
overcrowding problems and to predict where additional
classroom space is needed to support its instructional
and operational goals.

GRAND TERRACE
HIGH SCHOOL – INCREMENT 1
Wow!
Driving by the campus, passersby can see the gymnasium and
classroom building stair towers rising above the fence line.
Exterior building block walls are substantially complete
with exterior architectural steel finishes being attached to
the top of the walls. Although not visible to passersby,
interior work throughout the campus continues and is varying
stages of completion depending on the building. Interior
work of classrooms consists of drywall, utility ductwork,
wiring and piping, and casework (cabinets). Hardscaping and
landscaping have started. Please click

BLOOMINGTON
HIGH SCHOOL
Math and
Science Buildings
As
summer ends, so is the completion of the math and science
buildings at Bloomington High School. Desks, beakers and
slide rulers have been ordered and will be delivered in
September in anticipation of student occupancy in October.
Math and science students will continue to hold classes in
the temporary modular classrooms until then. Teachers plan
to move into their new classrooms during weekends to
minimize classroom disruptions. A ceremony to celebrate the
opening of the new building and dedicate it in memory of
math and science teacher , Mr. Claude “Bud” Johnston , is
being planned for sometime later this school year. Please

JOE BACA MIDDLE
SCHOOL
It
has been almost 12 months since the ground breaking ceremony
was held last October 2010. Construction is in full swing
for all the administration and classroom buildings. On any
given day, construction workers are pouring concrete
decking, erecting and welding structural steel, and
fireproofing and priming steel on various buildings
throughout the site. Interior framing, electrical, plumbing
and ductwork have started as well. Please click

COLTON HIGH
SCHOOL
Math and
Science Buildings
While
trying to move into the future with the state of the art
math and science classrooms, the past is literally being
unearthed at Colton High School over the last several
months. Predating the old 1940’s math and science building,
the excavation crew unearthed foundations from a cafeteria
building that had been destroyed by fire in 1931. After the
old footings and fire debris were removed, trenching and
installation of underground utilities got underway; new
concrete footings and slabs were poured. In late August, the
building went “vertical”, with framing and second floor
steel decking now visible above the construction fence line.
And arborists are taking special care of the historic live
oak tree, which is at least 75 years old, to ensure it will
live to shade yet another building being built for Colton
Yellow Jackets at the corner of Rancho and Valley Boulevard.
